Party 93.1 goes bye-bye

So this morning I get in my car to go to work, and put on 93.1, and.. Party 93.1 is GONE! What the hell? They're playing boring 90's rock music now!

Party 93.1 was an AWESOME South Florida radio station that played nothing but dance music. New dance, classic dance, you name it. They had these great classic freestyle mix shows at noon and filled a market that simply didn't exist anymore in this area.

They seemed to be doing well, too, with lots of promotions, and lots of people I know were listeners.

So why the hell did they abandon their market? They were the ONLY dance radio station in this market at the moment; there are already several rock stations. How can they possibly hope to compete? Not to mention they now have millions of angry listeners wondering where the hell Party 93.1 went. Power 96 is completely useless now, since they play nothing but hip-hop. So us dance music listeners have nowhere to go.

I called the old number, but couldn't get through. I bet thousands of former Party 93.1 listeners are complaining at the moment. I honestly hope they get mercilessly harassed into changing back to the dance format.

If not, I'm going to miss hearing all those freestyle tracks again. It was such a great path through memory lane...

UPDATE 3/25/2005: I'd like to thank everyone for their comments here. I never expected my little rant about this station dying would draw so many comments. It just further proves what a great station this was and what a crime it was for Cox to do a format flip. Hopefully dance will be back; Party 93.1 had good ratings, so I bet some other company is working on filling the hole... The market is out there!

Another UPDATE 4/19/2005: This has become a somewhat popular post, so any trolls or flames will be deleted. Thank you. }:)

UPDATE 4/29/2005: I found Salsa 98.3FM playing Freestyle today a bit after noon while scanning for radio stations across the dial. The fact that a Spanish station is playing Freestyle with english lyrics shows that there is indeed a market for it!

Turn up the bandwidth, dammit!

I for one wish I could vote for "Turn up the bandwidth on the stream, ya dimwits!" Their stream sounds like crap as it's only like 24kbps or so. It should be AT LEAST 128kbps!

For Internet radio I listen mostly to di.fm, they play better music anyway. The primary appeal of 93.1 was being able to listen anywhere. Now that it's gone, I'll stick with my iPod. Sigh.

Great thinking...I wish I cou

Great thinking...I wish I could vote for going back on the air or another number on the dial....

i always have though that

i always have though that di.fm has had much much better music than party 93.1. i guess that's because it is eurodance, vocal trance, trance and good music, not the shitty party 93.1 dance music.

I wish they would put the Digitally Imported Eurodance station on FM Radio!!!!

i agree on the part that

i agree on the part that party 93.1 will never be a major internet radio station...like Digitally Imported.

there was one thing that i didn't like about wpym...and that was during the last part of their life, the dance music they played started becoming "suckier", maybe it was just that i am a eurodance fan, but i didn't like it very much. i also thought that they played too much vocal trance and they were skipping eurodance.

i still wish party 93.1 would come back!!!

Like you guys said

Blame it all on the Hiphop, Rap, Reggaton (Which all has the same beat) and the rest of the urban format. It killed my favorate station of the 1990s, Power 96. Not only has it took over the radio, it has also takin over the night clubs, Gay and Straigt clubs. That is all blamed on the economy. Our lovley presedent very good at draining $$ out of peoples' pocket and killing the economy. When you see (No Offense) a Redneck on the dance floor boppin to booty music than you know that there's problems. Most of all my friends, which are gay. I remember five years ago they loved house music and danced to it all the time, now all of them don't care for house music, and only dance to hiphop.

This will only last a few more years the latest. Hiphop will burn it's self out very quick, which will cause a music turnover. I've noticed they don't come up with something new, for example, the classic rap song from 1990, Chubb Rock - Treat em right. There's a new hiphop song that steals the instrumental of that song without changing it one bit, with a female singing over it. There's quite a few other hiphop songs like that.

Your right i lived in

Your right i lived in florida and that was the only station i listened too and then i moved here to fort wayne indiana and i used the website to listen to them and now there gone omg that really sucks and i hope whoever got the station now goes belly up

Tracks?

Does anyone know where i can get some of the 93.1 original mixes? I have been looking for their "unique blend" on the peer to peers but havent found the same mixes. if anyone know where i could get some of them please email. 93.1 was the best and now the have laid it to rest, miami is truly in a much sadder state than before. Horrible traffic and *NO* good music.

The did the exact same thing

The did the exact same thing to up over in Sacramento,CA. We had a dope ass dance station called"POWER 105.5 SACRAMENTO'S REAL DANCE!"They played everything from Freestyle to Trance, Hardcore Happycore, US and UK Hard House. Man do I miss it. Ican tell you now that they wont be bringing your station back until they figure out a way to control it and us in the process. Us dance music listeners are unique in a way that we don't have to be told what songs we should and should not like or buy. That's why most of the other genre of radio stations play the exact same songs day after day, hour after hour, to program people into liking it even when its crap.

It really is a shame that ano

It really is a shame that another station if South Florida has not yet picked up the dance format. I am assuming it's only a matter of time, but you never know. I was, however, pleasantly suprised to see that 97.9 has turned to s dance format at night time during the weekends. That station is usually associated with popular mainstream 80's music, but I highly recommend checking this station out on the weekends.

Alternative to Party 93.1

Well party might be gone but their is an alterntive !!!

Ive noticed what you guys miss is what my station has!

97.9 playing dance?

I'll have to check it out. I like how party 93.1 says their Baaaack. They think their baaaaack, as long as their are only on the internet, they are not. I like how they say that they did not abandoned the dance format. Well, they shure did. Every other format is on the radio but dance. I have not listend to them on the internet, and I will refuse to listen to them only on the internet....

Power 93.1 Dance Music CD Vol2

Hello

I bought Party 93.1 Anthems Vol2 at the Fye Music Store. You can
do a search Party 93.1 Vol.1

Yes, I live in South Florida and I must say Cox Communications
really dropped the ball. Also I read that Markus Shultz moved
to Germany last year I think. He said the market in South Florida
for this music was getting more commercialized and also getting
to be like hollywood superficial stuff.

Markus Shultz was the Dj and MC for Global Dj Music Power 93.1

I did record all the weekends of October 2004 and Nov 7th 2004
well over 4 hours as mp3 the global Dj mixes that he played
from all over the world including a surprise visit from Arman
Van Buren. If you want I can upload them to you.. They do
have commercial breaks but a few with long mixes several
hours or hour at a time.

They were the best!! and now I will plan to play them on my upcoming
low power fm station part 15 rules and regulations for unlicensed fm
stations for my area.

Let me know!!

Paul

Paul..

Let me have your email address.. I'd like to listen to those 2004 recordings you have.. 93.1 was great.. really got me through some times with its late night smooth dance...

Just to let you guys know if

Just to let you guys know if you go on the website party931.com it's still up and you could still listen to the music. But I felt the same pain as everyone else. I came down from New Jersey to visit my parents and I put the radio on 93.1 I almost died.

93.1

Hi i used to live tp 93.1 when i lived in south florida and i loved it! I listened to it every day all day. I moved back to boston and my sister said the sme thing sge jumped in her car one morning and bam it was gone. I thinkk it is sad that they didn't give there listeders a head's up on what they were going to do. Now the only way i can enjoy the music is by listening to the cd's i bought. Hopefully they will get there sh** together and put it back on the air.

party 93.1 went bye-bye?????!!!

OMG!!!! i can not belive there's no more party 93.1 in miami. when i first went to miami i HATED dance, techno and any music similar to it. but then party 93 was turned on to me and i've loved dance music ever sinse. Now what am i gonna listen to when go to miami. hip hop is great but there's just something about a dance mix

Party 93.1 from good to bad. What's next....ugly?

I remember one day back home in Miami (I was on military leave at the time), I was heading to the beach to relax. As I got in my rental I was channel surfing on the car radio (as I usually do) I came across this station playing nothing but repeats almost every hour....BUT IT WAS AWSOME MUSIC THEY WERE REPEATING!!!!!!!!!! TALK ABOUT ENERGETIC!!!!!!!!!! I looked at the station and it sayed 93.1, I was surprised to hear this type of music in Miami. I'm used to hearing 90.5, 94.9, 95.7, 96.5 (sucked after 1995), and 105.1 (before they changed) but 93.1 hands down was the best even with the repeats it made my morning, day, and night.
As Party931 got bigger and bigger I was there either listening to it when on leave or at work (in California, Spain, Germany, Japan, etc via online) I guess you can say religiously.
I know the world is in constant change and things move rapidly, so although I was shocked to hear 931 was off the airwaves I could still listen to it online so thing where good, but now it's off the internet...for what rock........ROCK!!!!

WTF

Florida finally had a radio station that WAS the sights and sounds of Miami. Party931 was energetic, jumping, exciting, great taste in music, no morning talk shows and LITTLE TO NO COMMERCIALS.

Whatever happened for it to go off the air is there should be a possibility for the public to voice their oppinion for the type of music they love to listin to. If so Miami would love to have this station back up and running full time....if not something must come to a comprimise.

I don't know what the future holds for Party931 and their dance music but I hope their is a light at the end of the tunnel. I know I would fight to get that version back on the radio... Rock is cool and all but Miami has 94.9 for that, IT'S TIME MIAMI HAD ITS DANCE MUSIC BACK!

Well, I love both rock and

Well, I love both rock and Dance/Techno. It really was a shame that 931party became 93rock and zeta is gone.. To me Zeta really sucked anyways so Im glad they're gone, and the new 93rock really is AWSOME (if you like rock) but I'm pissed still because I also loved to listen to 931party in my car. I think we should do something to encourage radio companies to either start a new Dance/Trance/Techno music station or replace one of the spanish/hip-hop stations. Any Ideas?

-MAS

I know this seems to be a dated topic, but...

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents as well. Here in Las Vegas, NV we have a relatively new station that is called 9.31 The Party. Same format as the station you mentioned, same frequency, and an almost identical name.

Coincidence? You tell me.

Now everything is the Ghetto

I noticed a BIG virus going around. Everyone is now into the low class dirty hiphop ghetto music. I will never catch that virus. Everything is to blame on the economy and are lovely presendent who destroyed America. I'm voting for Hilary....Once the economy is back in good hands I think things will start going back to normal, and people will start enjoying life again...

I know that station, it's

I know that station, it's not the same format. 93.1 The Party in Las Vegas plays mostly upbeat pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Some Disco, some Freestyle, and some dance. Party 93.1 in Miami played pure dance tracks including dance remixed pop songs and Freestyle.

omg! i thought i was the only one!!

i thought i was the only one that really missed party 93.1..ive always hoped they put it back..i dont even listen to the radio anymore because of that..cus im really into party music..wow! so many songs i didnt even get theyre names! or the artist!!

radio in the US

Back in the 90s the feds relaxed ownership rules in regards to both radio, TV and media in general. This is when
everything went down hill.

I'm a FL native (from Orlando), but have friends down in So. FL and went down there often and I also enjoyed party 93.1. In Orlando a few years ago we had a sister station called 95.3 Party (Cox Radio station), it was on for a few years and then poof, gone. It turned into a (c)rap/hiphop station.

I now live in Atlanta and radio here is pretty much the same as anywhere else in the US: Rock, Country, Latin/Spanish and crappy Top40 = crap.

I listen to CDs in the car as I cannot stand the music that is played on the FM dial and the endless amounts of commercials and mindless babble by the so called "DJs"

We can thank Cox Radio, Crap (Clear) Channel and whomever else owns our airwaves and the music industry at large that force feeds society what they think we should hear.

Get a f***ing life! All of

Get a f***ing life! All of you are losers! Including me! I'm the worst loser of all!

[edited by Zorin; this is probably what you meant to say]

They r Crazy for that

My girlfreind and I went to South florida about 5 years ago and I hated dance/techno music at the time, then I hear 93.1 and we jammed that station on the beach, in the car, in the hotel room, everywhere we could. Then I went home and listened to it online even. We continued to go to Miami the next couple of years and I always looked foward to hearing 93.1. It just used to get u in the mood for anything, it was awsome for playing on the beach or driving around in the car w/ the top down. Then one year we came down for a vacation and boom, crappy rock, don't get me wrong, rock is cool but come on isn't there enough rock stations everywhere anyway?? So i resolved the matter and got XM radio and jam out to BPM, which is just like 93.1 was. it's just a shame they would kill what seemed to be a awesome station.

PARTY 93-1 IS COMING BACK!

Pssst. It's a secret. Party 93-1 is coming back to the South Florida Airwaves. It's going to be on 93.1-HD2. Check back later next week and you'll hear a bigger, better, stronger, Party 93-1 on HD2. If you don't have an HD radio. YOu can get one at any major retailer for under $100. Don't miss the experience. Out!

A Three year thread?

Hi I'm from New Zealand.

I heard 93.1 promoted tonight while listening to an old bootleg copy of Tiesto playing at Club Space Miami in 2002 on my computer. I'm amazed this thread has been kept alive so long. Good to see people behind the dance scene. It's healthy here, House being a bit more popular than Trance. I got to see Armin Van Buuren play here at Godskitchen last year and he played a killer set. Hope to make it to Trance Energy in Amsterdam one day.

Any way good on you guys for supporting the scene. Laterz

Three year thread

I was also surprised at the popularity of this thread. Lots of people miss 93.1 and this is one of the first places that show up on google when you search for it.

I never become too attached to a new radio station anymore, because all it takes is the whim of someone to get rid of it. All that promotion and work for nothing.

HD Radio

At least HD radio receivers are actually becoming affordable. I remember when they were $300 and a joke. I may end up picking one up when I upgrade the head unit on my car stereo.

Will this be the *same* Party 93.1 we remember? I have this feeling it will be completely different. I really liked the original 93.1's mix.

Party93.1 Anthems Volume 1 CD PartyIcon

If anyone has a copy of the Party93.1 Anthems Volume 1 that they would be willing to copy and or sell me I would very much appreciate it. I have been searching for 3 years and haven had any luck
Thanks,

PS PartyIcon are you going to have the same guy who did the rejoints and stuff do them for the new station? That would be very cool

Higher bitrate PLEASE!

This is awesome, but they NEED to up the bitrate.

96kbps WMA sounds like ass, simply enough.

At the very least encode to 128kbps, or switch to 128kbps MP3 which sounds a whole lot better (and plays in many more players)

Good to see it coming back, though. I'll have to look at HD radio receivers soon.

I found the track listing

Party 93.1 Lives! A Fan Website

Hey guys! I'm a really big fan of Party 93.1 as well that's why I made a new website www.party931lives.com. All news, events, discussion plus archives of past images, videos, and play lists (Top 93 of 03 for instance) can be found here. It is an UNOFFICIAL fan site but you can find the Party 93.1 stream and information about HD radio. There are no banners or ads so this isn't spam just a fan trying to get the word out and giving fans a place to stay. Thanks. ;D

if anyone knows if there ever gonna put it on regular radio hit me up mikey1991@bellsouth.net
l8terzzz

I Know .... !

Rock93 sucks... they play shitty rock/nu metal songs, I stopped listening to radio thanks to my Ipod.. i was bored now and checked the live streaming. They are still playing the SAME OLD SONGS , papa roach, red hot chilli pepers, ozzy, nirvana.. I cant belive it. I remember one day I turn on the radio and Zeta was gone haha, the same happened to party 93.1, but Zeta sucked, just like 93Rock.
This thread is SO old haha ! I can write whatever I want cause nobody is gonna read it!
F***, I forgot to close the 93rock window.. BYE BYE.

FM Radio sucks.

I didn't read your post and fully agree.

FM radio as a whole has gone to hell. I no longer listen to it at all. I sometimes listen to talk radio but that's about it.

Pandora, my iPod, and Internet radio stations are the way to go.

The radio industry is going to have to wake up if it wants to continue to have listeners. They need to focus on fixing the content. Fads like "HD Radio" aren't going to do a thing if the music is still crapola.

Party 93.1 is back!

Party 93.1 is back! :)

Dance stations in america

Hi everyone. It sickens me of what corporations are pushing on us here in the States. All we have to listen to is Hip hop, country, and hard rock. In baltimore we have 4 hip hop stations 5 rock stations, 3 country stations. What about freestyle, breakbeat, and high energy dance music, and of course vocal techno? 95.3 party in Orlando was one of the best stations i have ever heard. I used to listen live on the computer and run cdex and record the stream into an mp3. Of course it was cassette tape quality but i have many great breakbeat songs. Q102 (102.1 in philadelphia) used to play 95% freestyle in the 90's. They changed format to nothing but gansta rap and almost went bankrupt, they learned their lesson, they now play a mix of....you guessed it, rap, hard rock, and some generic dance music....(that music corporations are pushing out). The only station that plays non-corporation dance music is wmph 91.7 in, of all places, Wilmington Delaware!? (wmph.org). They play nothing but cutting edge dance tracks, they have no advertisers (no commercials) so the dance music is simply whatever dj's are putting out on cd's. It is actually a high school broadcasting class so it is students running the station. It is nothing like the breakbeat stuff in Florida but at least i can listen to something. I am so disgusted with media companies pushing out music that suits their interests. I mean yea, so the dance market is not as big as the hip hop market but thats because for the last 20 years, the music industry has been pushing hip hop, for some reason, so of course that is all that people know. Well guys, i am about all hip hopped out.

I KNOW ONE OF THE DJ'S AND GUESS WHAT?!...

I WAS AN APPRENTICE OF THE GREAT GEORGE ALVARADDO..THE PROFESSOR...I USED TO LISTEN TO HIS LATE NIGHT LABORATORY ON POWER 96.5 WHEN THEY USED TO DEDICATE THE NIGHT TO JUST DANCE MUSIC..IT WAS TRANCE ALL NIGHT LONG..WELL HE WAS ON THE PARTY 93.1 BOAT...I WAS LEARNING UNDER HIM FOR YEARS..I WENT MY OWN WAY AFTER 4 YEARS OF LEARNING..DID MY OWN THING FOR THE OTHER 7 YEARS..YOU CAN KEEP UP WITH MY MIXES AND NEW PRODUCED TRACKS FROM ME HERE..
