12/2002 - I dug out my Sound Blaster Pro equipped 486 so I could play my favorite ASM demo of all time, Second Reality, again. And damn, it looked great on that modern flat panel, despite the machine being a 486DX2/66.

12/23/2001 - My setup in December 2001. I was still playing with the Apple IIgs at the time. Visible are Duchess and Hushpad (windows and linux, respectively), my Palm IIIxe, ISDN router, and the box from a hard drive upgrade I bought at some point.

11/1/2000 - Hushpad circa 2000. Big-ass tower case! Also, it runs exclusively in text mode since the graphics card SUCKED.

5/10/1997 - The inside of Sarabi circa 1997. It was a bitchin' machine! Sound Blaster 32 audio, NE2000 clone ISA network card, Matrox Mystique video with a massive 2MB of RAM, and 1.2GB and 2.1GB hard drives. I think it had either 32MB or 96MB of RAM. (it was upgraded at some point) This is the same case that "milva", the 386DX/33 system, was in before I upgraded.

5/10/1997 - Sarabi and Milva. I *LOVED* that keyboard I had on sarabi; as far as I know it was in second place behind the IBM Model M for best keyboards of all time. Sadly it eventually died and I don't remember who made it. :( Sharp eyes will notice the Connectix greyscale QuickCam (parallel port).

11/5/1996 - When I first got the upgrade for Sarabi, the old 486 replaced the 386 for Linux duties. It now had a real hard drive in it, but I still only had one VGA monitor! So of course, I ran it using that old CGA card and monitor. Text was fuzzy, but still quite readable! Ahh, the days when you had to do more with less...

9/28/1996 - This was my first dedicated Linux box. It was a 386 with 5MB of RAM and a 20MB ST-225 MFM hard drive. To get a linux install on the thing, I started with a Slackware rootdisk and added what I needed to it (namely, NAT tools and TinyFugue). A very raw system, but it did what I wanted and handled PPP dialup a lot better than Windows did! It also used a CGA monitor, as I couldn't afford a better monitor for it at the time. This ran alongside the 486 in the previous picture.

1995 - This was my first PC (and a ferret plush). I got it in 1993 and it was upgraded in various ways until this photo was taken. It was named "Sarabi" and was also the first system I ever ran Linux on. At this point in time it was dual-boot Windows 3.1 and Linux Slackware 2.3. You will notice TinyFugue on the screen, logged into FurryMUCK; I was probably only on Furry for a few mere months at this time. Whoo. It was originally a 486SX/25 with 4MB of RAM and 170MB disk, but it was upgraded over the years to a 486DX2/66 with 12MB of RAM and 730MB of disk before it became "Milva" in 1996. Note the fanfold computer paper hanging down behind the computer from the printer (not visible) on top of the hutch. }:)

1992 - This is a screen capture from home video I took in 1992. It shows my Apple IIe in all its glory. Note dual monitors; the top one is color for games and the bottom is monochrome for reading 80 column text. An Epson LX-800 printer is present for hard copy, along with three 5.25" 140K floppy drives. Also visible are two CB walkie talkies I played with back then and my jars'o'change... I was 15 at the time.
